Spanish poem / conditional resources - Instantes

One of the many improvements in TaskMagic3 (compared with previous versions) is the fact that you can make exercises based on text on separate lines, such as poems, letters, songs, paragraphs etc., rather than just a continuous chunk of text.

The resources on this page are based on the poem Instantes, widely attributed to Jorge Luis Borges, but apparently not by him. The same approach can be used for any poem, short story, nursery rhyme, song etc. You can even add a sound file to the interactive exercises.

The resources below were created using the Mix and Gap component of TaskMagic3. Below you will find screenshots of TaskMagic3 interactive exercises interpsersed with example worksheets, which you can view, download, print etc.

French Christmas resources - Noël en France (exploiting a short text)

These resources are based on a short text about Christmas in France, which I think came originally from www.languagesonline.org.uk

There are 11 pdf files in all, all printed using dopdf - http://www.dopdf.com

The pdfs are based on a Mix and Gap file containing the text, which is also included below (mtx3). This file provides a wide variety of interactive exercises for use with PCs or with an interactive whiteboard. It requires TaskMagic3. If you haven't got TaskMagic3, you can download a 30-day trial from the TaskMagic website (doesn't require registration or anything - just download and install it).

If you've previously trialled TM3 and would like to trial it again, that's now possible. Also, if you'd like to arrange a longer trial period, that's now possible too. See the information at the bottom of the page at http://www.mdlsoft.co.uk/trialdownloads.htm

The screenshot above shows the student front page for the file in TaskMagicPlay. In TaskMagic, each of the little thumbnails links to a different interactive exercise.

Here is the Mix&Gap file (requires TaskMagic3):

French (GCSE level?) Halloween resources - text with exercises

The resources below are based on the vikidia article on halloween. I've taken a couple of bits of text out and put the last paragraph into the past. Here's the original article: http://fr.vikidia.org/wiki/Halloween

There are 11 pdf files all based on the same text.

I've also included the TaskMagic3 Mix&Gap file (mtx3) from which the pdfs were printed (using doPDF - http://www.dopdf.com), and which provides access to 18 interactive exercises for use with PCs and / or an IWB. This file requires TaskMagic3. (See http://www.mdlsoft.co.uk/mixandgap.htm for more info about the Mix&Gap component of TaskMagic3.)

Carlota Isabel Diana :)

Some resources based on a text adapted from El Mundo. Suitable for AS Spanish?

This mtx3 file requires TaskMagic3... ...but the other 11 files below are pdfs that can be accessed by anybody.

It's dead easy to make your own resources like this to exploit any text using the Mix&Gap component of TaskMagic3.

Here are the pdfs, in no particular order:

  • 1 x find the French.
  • 5 x gapfills: 1 with word list (this is the same exercise as the one featured on the pdf file on the link above); 1 multi-choice; 1 context-only gapfill; 1 verb transform gapfill; 1 with long gaps. These all test students in different ways.

A Level Spanish resources on "man locked in cargo hold" news story

These resources are based on this news story on BBC Mundo:

There are several pdfs...

3 x tile activities, where the text is broken down into 8, 15 and 24 tiles. These can be either numbered or cut out and shuffled into the correct order.

A multiple choice sequence activity - choose from the 3 options to rebuild the story.

4 x gapfill activities. 1 with word list; 1 based on context only (mainly small words, prepositions etc); 1 transformation gap-fill (similar to the ones on some AS papers); 1 clause length gap-fill.

An anagram text activity, requiring students to rewrite the whole text by unscrambling anagrams.

Here is the Mix&Gap file used to print all of the above. It contains 18 interactive activities (but requires you to have TaskMagic3).
