Making use of news stories (10 years after 9/11, French)

This is a very short post, but packed full of free resources.

I made a TaskMagic3 Mix&Gap file based on a news story from BBC Afrique.

I printed out the worksheets as pdf documents using doPDF - http://www.dopdf.com

On this occasion I've converted the 9 pdf worksheets into 1 pdf file using MergePDF - http://foxyutils.com/mergepdf/#

See below. Simply scroll through the pdf file to access the various printable activities. The activities are:

Île des animaux - Resources based on a simple story in French

The pdf files below are based on the 'Île des animaux' story, which is one of the 20 French stories available with a trial log-in on the Grow Story Grow website - http://www.growstorygrow.com

Grow Story Grow is an online language-learning library. There are over a 100 French animated stories in total (with animation and audio), each with interactive games, worksheets etc. The site also has stories in German, Spanish, English, Italian, Polish and Mandarin.

Exploiting a picture - Van Gogh's bedroom (French)

I recently came across an activity on the mflresources forum (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mflresources/) suggested by Vincent Everett (http://languagesatnorthgate.wordpress.com/), and it got me thinking about exploiting images for language practice using TaskMagic3.

Vincent introduced his activity as "a bit of reading, dictionary work, colouring in and culture". The activity was aimed at getting students involved in a bit of independent learning. As Vincent says:

TaskMagic3 French Sample Unit - Basic grammar, articles, negatives etc. - Free download

At the bottom of this post you will find a link to download a free standalone TaskMagic program (which does NOT require TaskMagic) which provides a step-by-step introduction and practice of some French basics.

This unit is ideal for beginners at primary or secondary school level. It covers a lot of high frequency expressions & concepts in a short space of time.

The content of the unit is:

Text Match exercises - what to match? (3) Gapped words or letters

Text Match is probably the most used component of TaskMagic and can be used in so many different ways...

This series of blog posts - "Text Match exercises - what to match?" - explores some ideas for the kinds of things that teachers can use as the basis for their text matching exercises. Each blog post contains screenshots of - and links to - interactive exercises as well as worksheets which can be viewed online, downloaded, printed etc. (SCROLL DOWN FOR THE WORKSHEETS)

French poem / passé composé resources - Déjeuner du matin (Jacques Prévert)

One of the many improvements in TaskMagic3 is the fact that you can make exercises based on text on separate lines, such as poems, letters, songs, paragraphs etc., rather than just a continuous chunk of text.

The resources on this page are based on the poem Déjeuner du matin by Jacques Prévert. The same approach can be used for any poem, short story, nursery rhyme, song etc. You can even add a sound file to the interactive exercises.

The resources below were created using

Verb Conjugation - Multiple tenses / 1st person (French)

See below for a selection of pdf worksheets which you can view online, save, print etc. The worksheets are based on items entered into a text grid using the Grid Match component of TaskMagic3.

The worksheets below were printed from TaskMagic3 using doPDF - http://www.dopdf.com - a free program which adds "print to pdf" to your printers list.

Before we get to the worksheets, let me just
